Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the interpretive notes recorded by Imam Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Khatib al-Shirbini (d. 977 AH) in his Tafsir al-Siraj al-Munir، within the selected scope from Surat al-Qiyamah to the end of Surat al-Nas. The research aims to collect these scattered notes، classify their types، clarify their purposes، and show their effect on understanding the Qur'anic text. It follows an inductive method in tracing the notes from their locations in the tafsir، and an analytical method in explaining their origins، comparing them with earlier exegetical statements، and identifying their scholarly functions. The study shows that al-Shirbini's notes are not merely incidental remarks; rather، they represent a methodological tool through which he directs the reader to subtle exegetical، linguistic، grammatical، rhetorical، recitational، doctrinal، and juristic issues. The research concludes that these notes reveal the breadth of al-Shirbini's knowledge، his careful engagement with previous exegetes، and his ability to employ concise remarks in resolving interpretive problems and enriching the understanding of the Qur'anic text.
