Abstract
This research examines the doctrinal guidance of a scholar from Jerusalem, who lived under the Ottoman Empire. He is Sheikh al-Islam al-Allama Radi al-Din Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Maqdisi, known as Ibn Abi al-Lutf. He addressed the verse: “And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens beneath which rivers flow.” The verse is taken from his most important works on interpretation, namely his commentary on the commentaries of al-Kashshaf by al-Zamakhshari, Anwar al-Tanzil by al-Baydawi, and Irshad al-Aql al-Saleem by Abu al-Saud al-Mufti. He followed the scholars who preceded him and was keen to His scholarly personality was evident through his discussion of the scholars’ opinions and his preference for one opinion. His doctrinal guidance was supportive and supportive of the Sunni school of thought.
