Abstract

This research aims to clarify the reality of divine provision and giving in light of the Almighty’s saying: “O mankind, eat from whatever is on the earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan” (Al-Baqarah: 168). This is achieved by studying what was mentioned in the marginal notes of Al-Kashaf, Al-Baydawi, and Abu Al-Su’ud Al-Mufti, with a focus on the issue of provision between the Sunnis and the Mu’tazila. The Sunnis believe that provision is everything that reaches the servant and from which he benefits, whether it is lawful or unlawful, as it comes from God Almighty through decree and creation. The Mu’tazila, on the other hand, restricted provision to lawful provisions in particular, because they considered unlawful provisions to be outside the will of God Almighty in terms of satisfaction.
