Publication Ethics
LISAN AL-ARAB, published by Peninsula Publishing Press, upholds the highest ethical principles in all its publishing activities. It aligns with the standards and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and promotes excellence in conducting, reporting, editing, and publishing academic research. Submitting a manuscript to LISAN AL-ARAB signifies that all authors have read and approved its contents and that it fully adheres to the journal’s ethical and policy requirements.
Advertising
LISAN AL-ARAB does not accept any advertisements from outside organizations.
Author Affiliations
Authors must clearly and accurately disclose their institutional affiliations to properly acknowledge the organizations or institutions that supported, funded, or facilitated the research or scholarly work.
● For non-research submissions, authors should state their current institutional affiliation.
● If an author’s institutional affiliation changed prior to publication, they must indicate the affiliation relevant to the research and also list their current institution.
● Authors without an institutional affiliation must explicitly state their independent status.
Handling Appeals and Complaints
All concerns, appeals, or complaints regarding authorship disputes or the peer-review process—including those raised after publication—should be submitted to the Editors-in-Chief. They will investigate by collecting statements from all involved parties and recommend a solution that aligns with the ethical principles defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics. The review or publication process may be paused until the issue is resolved. If the Editors-in-Chief are directly involved in the complaint, the investigation will be handled by the Editorial Board under the supervision of its most senior member.
Acknowledgments
Contributors who assisted in developing the manuscript but do not meet the authorship criteria, as well as institutions or organizations that offered financial or technical support, should be duly acknowledged.
Authorship Requirements
Authorship recognizes substantial intellectual contribution and ensures accountability for the work’s integrity. To qualify as an author, each contributor must fulfill all of the following:
- Make a meaningful intellectual contribution to the research—covering its concept, design, execution, data collection, analysis, or interpretation.
- Participate in drafting, revising, or critically reviewing the manuscript for intellectual value.
- Provide explicit consent for submission to LISAN AL-ARAB.
- Approve all manuscript versions, including initial, revised, and final proofs.
- Accept full responsibility for the article’s accuracy and integrity, addressing any concerns raised after publication.
Any modification to the author list—before or after publication—requires approval from all authors, including those being added or removed. The corresponding author must secure written confirmation from every co-author and provide a clear explanation for the change. Authorship adjustments after publication will be documented through an official notice. Requests that do not meet these standards or lack sufficient justification may be declined.
Authorship Criteria
To qualify as an author, individuals must have made significant contributions in three key areas:
- Conceptualization and Design: Developing the study, designing it, or performing data collection, analysis, or interpretation.
- Manuscript Development: Writing or critically evaluating the intellectual content.
- Final Approval: Providing approval of the final version prior to publication.
Providing financial support, collecting data without intellectual involvement, or general supervision alone does not qualify for authorship. Each author must take public responsibility for their specific contribution. The order of authors should reflect their contributions and cannot be changed after submission without written consent from all parties. LISAN AL-ARAB may limit the number of authors per submission depending on its type and scope, requiring justification for exceptions.
Contribution Details
Authors must specify the role of each contributor—such as conceptualization, methodology, data acquisition, analysis, writing, or editing. These roles will be listed in the published article. One or more authors must act as “guarantors,” taking full responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the entire work.
Citations
All manuscripts—whether research or non-research—must contain relevant, recent, and verified citations supporting every major claim. Excessive self-citation or mutual citation arrangements are not permitted and are considered unethical. Non-research manuscripts should include balanced references that avoid favoritism toward particular individuals or organizations, including LISAN AL-ARAB itself. Authors uncertain about citation practices are encouraged to contact the editorial office for guidance.
Conflicts of Interest/Competing Interests
All authors must disclose any possible conflicts of interest related to the work, including affiliations, products, or factors that could influence the study’s results or interpretation. Conflicts with products competing with those mentioned in the article must also be declared.
Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions
Corrections to published works require the approval of the LISAN AL-ARAB editor. Minor corrections are made directly within the original text. For major corrections, a revised version will be published separately, linked to the original, with an explanatory statement. Retractions will be carried out following COPE standards.
Consent for Publication
Manuscripts containing personal information, identifiable images, or case details must include written informed consent for publication under the Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0. If the subject is deceased, consent must be obtained from the next of kin. The manuscript must explicitly state that consent was secured.
Confidentiality
All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Access is limited to individuals directly involved in the editorial and publication process—authors, editors, and reviewers. In cases of suspected misconduct, the manuscript may be shared with the ethics committee of Peninsula Publishing Press or other relevant bodies to address the issue in accordance with COPE principles.
Copyright Policy
Core Principle
For further information, please refer to LISAN AL-ARAB's Aims & Scope page.
Submission Eligibility
Anyone may submit an original manuscript to LISAN AL-ARAB provided they are the copyright holder or possess formal authorization from the copyright owner. Authors retain full ownership of their copyright until their work is officially published.
Reader Privileges
LISAN AL-ARAB, published by Peninsula Publishing Press, follows an Open Access model. Authors keep the copyright of their published papers, and readers are allowed to access, download, reproduce, distribute, print, search, or link to the complete text of articles under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This license allows users to copy, share, modify, and reuse material for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author and source.
Open Access Framework
LISAN AL-ARAB, issued by Peninsula Publishing Press, operates under an Open Access framework. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, transmit, modify, or build upon the work, and even use it for commercial purposes, as long as proper acknowledgment is provided to both the author and the source. The full license can be reviewed at: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0
Author Safeguards
Although authors maintain their copyright and the right to use their work for academic purposes, they grant the Publisher permission to publish and distribute the content.
Data Falsification or Fabrication
The deliberate alteration or fabrication of data is a serious violation of research ethics, as it distorts scientific integrity and can have lasting detrimental effects. Authors must ensure that all data presented in their manuscripts are accurate and truthful. To support the review process, authors should keep the raw data used in their studies. Failure to provide the original data upon request may lead to rejection or retraction of a submitted or published paper.
Data Sharing Guidelines
LISAN AL-ARAB promotes transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing by encouraging data availability. Authors are urged to share their research data in an appropriate and timely manner, and submission procedures are structured to support this. The goal is to create consistent standards for storing and sharing data, enhancing accessibility and reuse. Proper data citation is strongly recommended to acknowledge contributors. The journal also works with the scientific community to strengthen data review practices that confirm, document, and enable reuse of published datasets. Additionally, LISAN AL-ARAB supports publishing datasets as independent, peer-reviewed research outputs to enhance visibility and author recognition.
Data Sharing Expectations
Authors should make their data publicly accessible whenever possible, unless prevented by confidentiality, privacy, or legal constraints. Shared data should enable verification of findings and allow for its use in future studies.
Data Availability Statements
All manuscripts must include a Data Availability Statement specifying where supporting data can be found or explaining why sharing is not possible. Acceptable examples include:
- Public Repository Data: “The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study are available in [repository name/link].”
- Data on Request: “The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.”
- No Data: “No datasets were generated or analyzed during the current study.”
Desk Rejection Criteria
LISAN AL-ARAB, under Peninsula Publishing Press, may reject submissions without peer review if they meet any of the following conditions:
● Irrelevance: The content does not correspond with LISAN AL-ARAB’s thematic focus.
● Ethical Concerns: The manuscript breaches publication ethics, violates international standards, or includes plagiarism.
● Lack of Novelty or Impact: The study does not offer significant originality or contribution to its field.
● Methodological Issues: The research design contains major flaws.
● Undefined Objectives: The study’s aims are unclear.
● Poor Structure: The paper lacks organization or omits essential sections.
● Language Deficiency: The writing, grammar, or presentation fails to meet academic standards.
● Non-Compliance: The manuscript does not follow LISAN AL-ARAB’s submission requirements.
Duplicate Submission and Publication Policy
Authors must confirm that their submission to LISAN AL-ARAB is not under review elsewhere. Submitting the same work simultaneously to multiple journals constitutes serious misconduct. This rule also applies to works previously published in another language. If authors wish to republish an already published article in a permitted secondary form, they must first secure written consent from the original publisher and copyright holder. They must also inform the LISAN AL-ARAB Editor about the work’s prior publication and explicitly state that it is a translated version, including a citation to the original article, following ICMJE recommendations.
Funding Disclosure
Authors must disclose all sources of financial or institutional support within their manuscript. They should specify the funder’s role, if any, in the design, execution, analysis, or reporting of the research. If the funding body had no involvement, this must be clearly stated. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of this disclosure and for meeting any funder-specific requirements.
Images and Figures Guidelines
LISAN AL-ARAB only accepts figures and images directly relevant to the research and that contribute meaningfully to understanding the work. Illustrative content without academic value should be omitted. Authors are required to obtain written permission to reproduce any copyrighted material owned by third parties, including text, figures, tables, data, audio, video, film stills, or supplementary files. When photographs, videos, or audio could reveal the identity of participants or patients, explicit “Consent to Publish” must be obtained. Cultural considerations must also be respected, particularly concerning sensitive materials such as human remains or images of deceased persons, which may require community approval in accordance with ethical practices. Experimental photographic images (e.g., microscopy) must accurately depict the original without distortion. Any image enhancement must be transparently described in both the manuscript and figure legend. Authors should provide the editorial office with original, unedited image files upon request. Minor uniform adjustments across an entire image are acceptable, but any manipulation that affects interpretation is strictly prohibited. If figures are reused from other publications, authors must secure permission from the copyright owner and include a statement of permission in the figure legend. Even if an image is freely available or uncopyrighted, its original source must be properly credited.
Misconduct
LISAN AL-ARAB remains fully committed to addressing all forms of academic and research misconduct, taking appropriate and firm action in accordance with COPE guidelines to ensure the integrity and reliability of the scholarly record. Misconduct includes, but is not limited to, the following actions:
● False Affiliations: Providing misleading or incorrect information about one’s institutional or organizational affiliation.
● Copyright Infringement: Using copyrighted material without the necessary authorization or permission.
● Citation Manipulation: Intentionally adding citations for the sole purpose of artificially increasing citation counts for certain authors or journals.
● Duplicate Submissions/Publications: Submitting or publishing the same work in multiple venues without full disclosure.
● “Ethics Dumping”: Conducting research in regions with less stringent ethical standards than one’s own country to bypass ethical restrictions.
● Image/Data Manipulation: Deliberately altering or fabricating experimental or visual data.
● Peer Review Interference: Attempting to improperly influence or manipulate the peer review process.
● Plagiarism: Using another person’s words, ideas, or work without proper attribution.
● Self-Plagiarism/Text-Recycling: Reusing substantial portions of one’s previously published material without appropriate acknowledgment or disclosure.
● Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest: Failing to report financial, personal, or professional interests that might bias research.
● Unethical Research: Engaging in studies that do not adhere to accepted ethical standards and established research guidelines.
Specific Instances of Misconduct:
● Duplicate Submission: Manuscripts already published or under review elsewhere will face penalties. Authors building on prior work must cite it properly and explain what is new or distinct in the submission.
● Citation Manipulation: Papers that use citations primarily to inflate citation metrics will be subject to penalties.
● Data Fabrication/Falsification: Papers found to contain falsified or fabricated data, including modified images, will face disciplinary measures.
● Improper Authorship: Only individuals who have made substantial contributions and approved the manuscript’s content should be listed as authors. All contributors, including students and technicians, must be properly acknowledged.
● Redundant Publications: Dividing one study into multiple smaller publications without valid justification is not permitted.
● Image Manipulation: The intentional and misleading alteration or fabrication of images is a serious violation. LISAN AL-ARAB requires that images accurately represent the original data. No features may be added, removed, enhanced, or obscured without full disclosure. Minor adjustments to brightness or color balance are only allowed if they do not change the data’s interpretation. If parts of images from different sources are combined, it must be clearly stated. Authors must provide original, unaltered images upon request. Failure to do so may lead to rejection or retraction. Misconduct also includes any violation of LISAN AL-ARAB’s editorial policies, ethical guidelines, or related standards from COPE, WAME, ICMJE, and STM. Any activity that threatens the integrity of research or the publication process will be investigated using COPE’s official flowcharts.
Publication Ethics
LISAN AL-ARAB and its editorial board are dedicated to maintaining the highest ethical standards in publishing, following the principles set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Editor Responsibilities
● Publication Decisions: The editorial board determines which manuscripts will be published, based on reviewer feedback and compliance with legal standards such as copyright, defamation, and plagiarism laws. All decisions are made impartially, without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, or religion.
● Confidentiality, Disclosure, and Conflicts of Interest: Editors must maintain complete confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts. Information may only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and editorial advisors as necessary. Editors, reviewers, or others may not use unpublished material from a manuscript for personal research without written consent from the author. Readers are informed of any financial support or funder involvement in the research.
● Author Relations: Editors ensure that the peer review process is fair, unbiased, and timely. Clear policies exist to prevent bias in submissions involving editorial board members. Author guidelines specify authorship criteria to ensure accountability.
● Reviewer Relations: Reviewers are encouraged to report ethical concerns, detect redundant publications, or identify plagiarism. Reviewer feedback is shared with authors unless it contains inappropriate or defamatory remarks. Reviewers who consistently fail to provide timely, respectful, or quality reviews may no longer be invited to participate.
● Quality Assurance: Editors ensure that all published materials meet high academic standards and comply with ethical research practices. They must verify that appropriate ethical approval was obtained when applicable, remain alert to intellectual property issues, and collaborate with Peninsula Publishing Press to correct any legal or ethical violations. Errors or misleading information must be corrected quickly and transparently.
Reviewer Responsibilities
● Assisting Editorial Decisions: Reviewers provide objective and constructive evaluations to guide editorial decisions and help authors improve their manuscripts. Personal criticism is unacceptable.
● Reviewer Qualification: Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete a review in time must promptly inform the editor. They must decline to review any paper where a conflict of interest exists due to personal, academic, or professional relationships.
● Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Information or ideas obtained through peer review must not be used for personal gain.
● Source Acknowledgment: Reviewers should identify relevant prior work that has not been cited and notify the editor of any significant overlap or similarity with other known publications.
Author Responsibilities
● Reporting Standards: Authors must present their work accurately and objectively, clearly describing its importance. All underlying data must be represented truthfully. Authors should make data available for verification and retain it for at least two years after publication. False or misleading statements are strictly prohibited.
● Originality, Plagiarism, and Concurrent Publication: Authors must ensure their work is original and that all references to others’ work are properly cited. Plagiarism in any form is unethical. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals is also prohibited.
● Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors must declare any financial or personal conflicts of interest that might influence the research or its interpretation. Sources of financial support must also be disclosed.
● Authorship: The corresponding author must ensure that all eligible co-authors are included and that all have approved the final version. No inappropriate authors may be added, and no legitimate contributors may be omitted.
● Correcting Published Errors: If authors discover a major error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must immediately inform the LISAN AL-ARAB editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the publication.
Peer Review Process
All submissions to LISAN AL-ARAB undergo a detailed peer review process to ensure compliance with academic and ethical standards. After an initial editorial screening, manuscripts are sent to reviewers under a double-blind system, where both author and reviewer identities remain anonymous. Final decisions are made by the editorial board, guided by reviewer recommendations. In certain cases—especially when submissions raise ethical, security, or societal issues—the Research Integrity team may seek additional expert input. This may include consulting specialized reviewers, requesting further evaluation, or, in rare cases, declining to proceed with publication.
Plagiarism Policy
LISAN AL-ARAB strictly enforces an anti-plagiarism policy prohibiting the uncredited use of others’ intellectual work, including text, ideas, or research findings. Any submission containing plagiarism—partial, complete, or self-replicated—will be rejected. Content previously shared on preprint servers is not considered duplicate publication. The corresponding author is accountable for ensuring originality throughout the review and publication process. All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using reliable detection software, and those with unacceptable similarity levels will be immediately declined.
Preprint Guidelines
Authors may share preprints at any time without limitation. Once accepted for publication, authors are encouraged to link their preprint to the final version using the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Authors may also update their preprints on repositories such as arXiv or RePEc to reflect the accepted version of their paper.
Protecting Patient Privacy Rights
To preserve patient confidentiality, no identifiable information should be published unless it is essential for the scientific purpose and written informed consent has been obtained. Authors must ensure that identifiable features, such as names, are removed from figures or text unless consent is granted. LISAN AL-ARAB follows ICMJE guidelines, which state:
- Authors, not LISAN AL-ARAB or Peninsula Publishing Press, are responsible for obtaining and securely storing signed patient consent forms before publication. These forms should not be submitted with the manuscript or sent to the editorial or publisher offices.
- If a paper includes patient-identifying images or descriptions, the manuscript must include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from the patient.
Research Ethics and Consent
LISAN AL-ARAB requires that all submitted research strictly adheres to the highest ethical standards.
Studies Involving Humans, Animals, and Plants
Original research papers involving human participants, animals, plants, biological materials, protected datasets, or restricted collections and sites must include a distinct "Ethics Approval" section. This section must specify:
● The name of the ethics committee or institutional review board that approved the study.
● The approval number or identifying code.
● A statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from all human participants prior to their involvement.
Research involving animals must comply fully with ethical standards related to animal welfare. Authors are required to:
● Follow international, national, and institutional guidelines for the humane treatment of animals.
● Include in the Ethics Approval section the name of the ethics committee and the corresponding approval number.
● Justify the selection of animal species.
● Provide details regarding housing, feeding, environmental enrichment, and steps taken to minimize pain or distress.
● Specify the anesthesia and euthanasia methods used.
Manuscripts that fail to meet these ethical approval and welfare standards will not be considered for publication.
Research Involving Human Participants
All studies involving human subjects must comply with the ethical principles stated in The Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association, especially regarding human experimentation. Manuscripts must also follow the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals and aim for inclusion of diverse and representative human populations. Authors must use the terms “sex” and “gender” accurately.
All study protocols require prior approval from an institutional or relevant ethics committee, meeting both national and international ethical requirements. This approval, including the institution name, ethics board title, and approval number, must be submitted with the manuscript. Ethical clearance must be obtained before initiating research; retrospective approvals are typically not accepted and can disqualify a manuscript. Authors must also include a statement within their paper confirming that informed consent was obtained from all participants and that their privacy rights were fully protected.
Research Involving Animals
All animal research must conform to the ARRIVE guidelines and to established legal frameworks, such as the U.K. Animals Act 1986, the EU Directive 2010/63/EU, or the National Research Council’s Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Authors must explicitly confirm compliance with these regulations in their manuscript. When relevant, the sex of animals and its potential influence on study results must be noted.
Experiments involving vertebrates or regulated invertebrates must meet the ethical requirements of the authors’ institution and national or international authorities. Documentation of ethics approval or animal licenses must be included when applicable. Authors are required to confirm that all reasonable measures were taken to minimize suffering and must describe the methods used to ensure animal welfare.
Research Involving Plants
Studies involving plants must follow institutional, national, or international regulations governing biological research. When relevant, a statement confirming authorization or licensing must be included. Authors must also comply with the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Informed Consent
Patients’ rights to privacy must be respected and cannot be violated without explicit informed consent. Identifiable data—such as names, initials, hospital identifiers, written accounts, images, sonograms, CT scans, or pedigrees—may only be published if scientifically necessary and if the patient has given written consent after reviewing the manuscript. Authors must inform patients if any identifiable material will appear online or in print.
Written consent forms should be securely stored by LISAN AL-ARAB, the authors, or both, according to local laws. Unnecessary identifying details should be omitted. If anonymity cannot be guaranteed, informed consent is mandatory. For instance, concealing only the eye area in photographs is insufficient. Any modifications to protect identity must not alter scientific meaning, and this must be confirmed by authors and acknowledged by editors. When informed consent has been obtained, it must be clearly stated in the published article.
Special Issues
LISAN AL-ARAB organizes Special Issues to showcase innovative and emerging research topics within its academic scope. Proposals for Special Issues may be submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief. These issues focus on advancing scholarly discussions and research within the core domains of the journal, including Arabic Linguistics, Arabic Dialectology, Arabic Literature and Criticism, Translation Studies, Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL), Arabic Lexicography and Corpus Linguistics, and Arabic Calligraphy and Script Studies. Once a proposal is approved, a formal call for papers is announced. All submissions to Special Issues undergo the same rigorous double-blind peer review process and must adhere to the same authorship, formatting, and ethical standards that govern regular issues of LISAN AL-ARAB. Dedicated Guest Editors are appointed to uphold academic excellence, quality, and integrity throughout the editorial and publication process.
Guest Editor Selection
Guest Editors are selected based on their subject expertise, editorial experience, and recognized academic reputation in the relevant field. Candidates may be nominated by current Editorial Board members, existing editors, or through self-nomination. All nominations are evaluated by the Editorial Board and must receive final approval from the Editor-in-Chief. Guest Editors are responsible for:
● Defining the theme, objectives, and scope of the Special Issue.
● Preparing and widely promoting the call for papers within relevant scholarly communities.
● Overseeing the double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness, objectivity, and academic rigor.
● Managing the revision and selection of final manuscripts.
● Ensuring full compliance with LISAN AL-ARAB’s editorial policies, ethical guidelines, and quality standards.
All final publication decisions for Special Issue manuscripts are made in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.
Proposing Special Issues
Proposals for Special Issues should be submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief and must include:
● The central theme and scholarly objectives of the proposed issue.
● The intended audience and anticipated academic contribution or impact.
● The names, affiliations, and qualifications of the proposed Guest Editors.
● A detailed timeline outlining submission deadlines, review phases, and publication milestones.
All proposals undergo a thorough review process and must be approved by both the Editorial Board and the Editor-in-Chief. Once approved, an official call for papers is published on the LISAN AL-ARAB website and circulated via email notifications and academic networks. Guest Editors, in collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief, establish a clear workflow for manuscript submission, peer review, and publication.
Editorial and Review Process for Special Issues
Manuscripts submitted to Special Issues follow the same double-blind peer review process as regular submissions, conducted through ScholarOne (Clarivate). Each manuscript proceeds through the following steps:
- An initial evaluation by Guest Editors to ensure relevance, academic quality, and adherence to the Special Issue theme.
- A double-blind review by at least two qualified experts with subject-specific expertise, ensuring anonymity between reviewers and authors.
- Author revisions based on reviewer feedback, with potential re-evaluation if deemed necessary.
- A final recommendation by the Guest Editors, followed by official approval from the Editor-in-Chief.
Accepted papers are then professionally copyedited, formatted, and published in accordance with LISAN AL-ARAB’s editorial standards. The quality and impact of each Special Issue are periodically reviewed to maintain the journal’s academic integrity and excellence.
Special Issue Guidelines
Manuscripts submitted to Special Issues must strictly adhere to all submission, authorship, and ethical requirements identical to those of regular issues. Contributors are strongly advised to carefully review LISAN AL-ARAB’s complete Author Guidelines before submission. Special Issues are published with the same rigorous editorial oversight and peer-review procedures that ensure the journal’s academic quality and ethical integrity.
Topics for Special Issues are determined by the Editorial Board and are designed to highlight cutting-edge, interdisciplinary, and evolving research areas within Arabic studies. These include scholarly contributions and research advancements in:
● Arabic Linguistics
● Arabic Dialectology
● Arabic Literature and Criticism
● Translation Studies
● Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL)

● Arabic Calligraphy and Script Studies
Guest Editors are encouraged to propose Special Issues that explore contemporary approaches to Arabic linguistics and literature, comparative studies in translation, digital and computational methods in Arabic corpus research, developments in Arabic pedagogy, and artistic as well as historical analyses of Arabic script and calligraphy. Each Special Issue must align with LISAN AL-ARAB’s mission to advance Arabic language and literature scholarship, promote cross-disciplinary engagement, and foster international collaboration in the field of Arabic studies.
Publication Approach
LISAN AL-ARAB follows a continuous publication model, accepting and publishing articles for general issues promptly after successful peer review. Special Issues are launched as proposals are approved by the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board, without a fixed publication schedule.
Each Special Issue is structured to highlight innovative research themes, commemorate major scientific developments, or align with significant academic events and conferences. Regardless of focus or timing, all Special Issues adhere to LISAN AL-ARAB’s rigorous editorial, peer review, and ethical standards, ensuring consistent transparency, quality, and scholarly integrity across all publications.
Using Material from Other Sources
Authors must secure all necessary permissions for any third-party materials included in their LISAN AL-ARAB submissions. Limited excerpts or certain forms of content may be used for critique or review without formal authorization; however, any use of copyrighted material beyond these exceptions requires written consent from the copyright holder before submission. For guidance or questions regarding permission requests, authors may contact: support@peninsula-press.ae
Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools in Writing
LISAN AL-ARAB recognizes the potential of AI and AI-assisted tools in enhancing academic writing. This policy applies specifically to their use during manuscript preparation, separate from their role in data analysis or research processes. Authors who utilize AI technologies for manuscript writing should do so only to improve readability and language quality. These tools are intended to assist—not replace—the author’s intellectual and scientific contributions, reasoning, or conclusions.
All AI use must remain under human supervision, with authors reviewing and editing all AI-generated or refined content. Authors must remain aware that AI tools may generate inaccurate, biased, or incomplete material, and therefore bear full responsibility for the content and accuracy of their submissions. Transparency regarding AI use is mandatory; authors must include a clear statement within their manuscript describing the extent and purpose of AI or AI-assisted technologies used. This disclosure will also appear in the published article.
AI systems cannot be credited as authors or co-authors. Authorship involves human judgment, responsibility, and accountability—tasks that AI cannot perform. Each author must approve the final manuscript, consent to submission, ensure its originality, verify co-author eligibility, and confirm that the work does not violate any third-party rights.
Using AI in Peer Review
General Policy on Generative AI in Peer Review
LISAN AL-ARAB prohibits reviewers from using Generative AI or AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, Jasper AI, or similar systems during the peer review process. This policy safeguards author confidentiality and intellectual property. The journal continues to evaluate ethical AI solutions and may update this policy as responsible technologies emerge. For general reference on ethical publishing practices, reviewers may consult: https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies-and-standards/publishing-ethics
Guidelines for Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Journal Peer Review Process
This policy provides clear direction for authors, editors, and reviewers regarding the responsible use of AI technologies. LISAN AL-ARAB monitors developments in this area and will revise these guidelines as needed.
Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential materials and are strictly prohibited from uploading any part of a submission into generative AI tools. Doing so may breach confidentiality, violate authors’ rights, or expose personal data. This restriction also applies to peer review reports, which may contain sensitive or identifying information. Reviewers should not upload their reports to AI tools—even for stylistic refinement or grammar correction.
Peer review relies on expert human evaluation. The judgment, insight, and critical reasoning necessary for manuscript assessment cannot be replicated by AI systems, which may produce inaccurate or biased conclusions. Reviewers hold full responsibility for the integrity and precision of their reports.
While authors are permitted to use AI tools during the writing phase—with proper disclosure limited to language enhancement—reviewers must not employ AI tools in their review activities. Any author disclosure of AI use will appear at the end of the manuscript, prior to the reference list.
LISAN AL-ARAB may employ its own identity-protected, ethically developed AI technologies for internal purposes such as verifying manuscript completeness, detecting plagiarism, or assisting in reviewer selection. These tools are carefully vetted for fairness, confidentiality, and data security compliance. The journal remains committed to adopting technologies that uphold ethical AI principles while safeguarding author and reviewer privacy.
Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence systems capable of producing text, images, sound, or data, such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, Jasper AI, NovelAI, or Rytr AI.

The Editor-in-Chief then determines whether the submission fits within LISAN AL-ARAB’s scope and scientific standards. Manuscripts deemed unsuitable or poorly written may be declined without external review.
Submission Declaration and Confirmation
By submitting to LISAN AL-ARAB, authors affirm that the manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Submission implies that all authors have reviewed and approved the content and that the appropriate institutional permissions have been granted. Accepted papers cannot be republished in any form without the copyright holder’s written consent. Every submission undergoes plagiarism screening through Turnitin to verify originality.
Manuscript Arrangement
Manuscripts must be organized in the following order:
- Title Page
- Abstract and Keywords
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgment
- Conflicts of Interest
- References
- Arabic Abstract
- Tables
- Figures
Title Page
The title page, which must be entirely in English, should contain the following elements:
- Title: The title must be concise, specific, and clearly represent the content of your research. Do not include references, formulas, or uncommon abbreviations. It should be centered, written in 14-point Times New Roman font, and bold.
- Authors and Affiliations: List the full names of all authors. This section should be centered beneath the title, in 11-point Times New Roman font, bold, and not italicized. Assign each author to their corresponding institution using superscript lowercase letters. Provide complete affiliation details, including department, faculty or college, university, city, and country. The main affiliation should correspond to the location where most of the work was carried out. If an author has since moved to another institution, their current address may be mentioned in addition, but no updates will be made after publication.
- Corresponding Author: Indicate the corresponding author using an asterisk. Their contact details must appear as a footnote. If available, provide the 16-digit ORCID ID. A separate page within the same file should include the Title, Authors, and Affiliations translated into Arabic using the same formatting. A running title of no more than 80 characters is also required.
Abstract
The abstract must serve as a standalone summary, written without citations and limited to 300 words. It should briefly describe the study’s purpose, methodology, main results, and key conclusions. Define any uncommon abbreviations at first mention. Use 9-point Times New Roman, not bold or italicized.
Keywords
Authors must provide relevant keywords separated by semicolons. Use 10-point Times New Roman, not bold or italicized.
Introduction
This section should be concise, with no subheadings. It must clearly explain the importance of the study and the reasons for its publication. Keep background information focused and relevant to the research problem.
Material and Methods
Provide enough detail to enable replication of the experiments. Use subsections when multiple methodologies are described. Keep experimental details brief but complete for reproducibility. When referring to previously published methods, cite them properly and describe any modifications. Include supplier details for all chemicals, reagents, strains, and equipment. For statistical tests, specify the test used and the level of significance or p-value threshold.
Results and Discussion
These sections should be combined. Present the results clearly and succinctly, limiting the number of tables and figures to essential data only. Organize results logically through text, figures, and tables. Discuss the meaning and implications of the findings, compare them with existing studies, identify limitations, and propose directions for future work. Avoid merely restating the results.
Conclusion
Summarize the main conclusion of the study concisely, highlighting its purpose and importance. Include new hypotheses and recommendations when applicable.
Acknowledgment
Place acknowledgments at the end of the manuscript, just before the references. Use this section to recognize individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship requirements and institutions or organizations that provided financial or material support.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the manuscript’s publication. Each potential conflict should be explained in context. If none exist, this must be clearly stated. The corresponding author is responsible for collecting disclosures from all co-authors.
Figures
Figures should not be submitted separately during the initial submission. Upon acceptance, source files for each figure will be requested. Each figure should have its own electronic file and must be cited in order within the text. Acceptable formats include vector art or bitmap. Bitmap images should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi unless a lower resolution is justified and stated. When bitmap images include labels, place them on a separate layer. Cite figures in the text using Arabic numerals, and ensure that all tables, figures, and schemes are numbered consecutively. Use lowercase letters to identify subparts of a figure. Captions should appear below the figures, written in 9-point Times New Roman, bold, not italicized, with only the first word capitalized.
Tables
Tables must be cited sequentially in the text and include descriptive titles. Indicate units in the column headers for numerical data. Avoid vertical lines in the table layout. Table titles should be left and right justified, placed above the table, in 9-point Times New Roman, bold, not italicized, with only the first word capitalized.
Funding Statement
Clearly describe the source of funding that supported the research and its publication. Identify the funding agency and include grant numbers in square brackets. If the work was done as part of employment and no external funding was received, specify the employer. State whether the funding body influenced the design, execution, analysis, or publication decisions.
Nomenclature and Units
All measurements should use SI units whenever possible. If other accepted units are used, provide their SI equivalents in parentheses. The same rule applies to tables and figures, with conversion factors explained in notes or legends.
Declarations and Statements
Each manuscript must include the following declarations in a section titled "Statements and Declarations," placed immediately after the References section. Submissions lacking these statements will be considered incomplete and returned to the authors.
Funding Information
Authors must explicitly identify all financial sources supporting the research, including grant numbers. If publication charges were paid through funding, this must be disclosed. Ensure accuracy in funder names and grant numbers to avoid issues related to funding acknowledgment.

Research Data Policy and Data Availability Guidelines for Authors
LISAN AL-ARAB promotes research data sharing to strengthen transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge dissemination. The journal recognizes the need to balance open access with ethical and legal restrictions. The following principles apply to data availability statements:
Data Sharing Expectations: Authors should make their data publicly available whenever possible, provided privacy, confidentiality, or legal considerations do not prevent this. Shared data should allow verification of results and reuse by other researchers.
Data Availability Statements: Each manuscript must include a Data Availability Statement specifying how to access the data supporting the findings or explaining why sharing is not possible. Acceptable examples include:
- Data in a Public Repository: “The datasets generated and/or analyzed during this study are available in [repository name], at [URL/DOI].”
- Data on Request: “The datasets generated and/or analyzed during this study can be obtained from the corresponding author upon a reasonable request.”
- No Data Available: “No datasets were generated or analyzed for this study.”
Proofs
The corresponding author will receive page proofs via email to review the typesetting, editing, and accuracy of all content, including text, tables, and figures. All corrections must be submitted in a single communication within 48 hours to avoid delays. Authors bear full responsibility for proofreading. If no response is received within the given timeframe, Peninsula Publishing Press may proceed with publication.
Revised Manuscripts
Authors are advised to submit their revised manuscripts within one month after receiving an editorial decision. While a thorough revision improves the likelihood of acceptance, it does not guarantee publication, as revised papers undergo another full evaluation. Authors must respond clearly and respectfully to each reviewer comment, detailing changes made or explaining their reasoning when disagreeing. All modifications in the revised manuscript must be clearly highlighted to facilitate re-evaluation.
When submitting revisions, authors should upload the following:
● Revised manuscript with tracked changes: This version should show all edits made since the initial submission, using the “Track Changes” feature in Microsoft Word. Label the file as “Revised Article with Changes Highlighted.”
● Response to reviewers: A separate document listing each reviewer’s comment followed by the authors’ detailed responses, along with a summary of all modifications made. Label this file as “Response to reviewers.”
● Clean revised manuscript: A final version of the manuscript without highlights or tracked changes, labeled “Manuscript.” This represents the version for formal review.
After Acceptance
Once an article is accepted, it enters the production phase for typesetting. When completed, authors receive page proofs following the same procedure described in the “Proofs” section.
Peer Review
All submissions to LISAN AL-ARAB undergo a rigorous peer review process to ensure the highest scholarly standards. Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are sent to expert reviewers. The journal uses a double-blind review system, keeping both author and reviewer identities confidential. Final publication decisions rest with the editorial board, guided by reviewer recommendations.
In special cases, the Research Integrity team may seek additional expert evaluation, particularly for manuscripts involving ethical, security, or societal concerns. The team may engage specialized reviewers, request additional assessments, or decline publication when warranted.
Ethical Guidelines
LISAN AL-ARAB mandates adherence to strict ethical standards across all aspects of research and publication, particularly for studies involving humans, animals, or plants.
Compliance with Ethics of Experimentation
