The Role of the Quran in Shaping Modern Social Justice Perspectives: A Thematic Exploration

Abstract

Social justice has become a dominant theme in contemporary discourse, dealing with issues of equality, justice, and the equitable distribution of resources and opportunities In a world marked by inequality and growing social divisions, . the concept of justice remains important for individual and collective well-being. Among these, Quranic teachings stand as a profound source of guidance on justice, equality and social harmony. Regarded by Muslims as the divine word of God, the Quran provides a comprehensive framework for human life not only in spiritual terms but also in social, economic and political spheres and emphasizes the importance of justice as a fundamental principle a just society and the establishment of peace The Qur'anic understanding of justice is intimately connected with ethical, moral and spiritual issues, and focuses on the rights and responsibilities of individuals towards each other and the welfare of all humanity. Through its many verses, the Qur’an extols individual rights and a balanced social welfare, encourages its followers to act fairly, to help the oppressed, and to ensure the equitable distribution of wealth and riches. By examining key Quranic themes of justice, equity and social welfare, this study aims to shed light on how these ancient teachings influence modern conceptions of justice. The study will examine the Qur’anic emphasis on the fair treatment of marginalized groups, the establishment of rights and duties in society, and the importance of collective responsibility for achieving social equality. Furthermore, the course will discuss the relevance of these teachings in today's world with issues of poverty, inequality and social injustice and thus, not only the timeless wisdom of the Qur'an and this research reveals but a deeper understanding of how its teachings can be applied to the challenges of contemporary life forces  By engaging with classical and contemporary Qur’anic interpretations, this study will provide insights into how the Qur’an in the present era inspires efforts to build fairer and more just societies.
