Main Article Content
Abstract
The present study works to map the relationships between Islam and the other two Abrahamic faiths, Judaism and Christianity by way of an examination of Quranic instances relating to these religions. The Quran describes Jews and Christians, who are respectively known as the "Ahl al-Kitab" (People of the Book), as containing equivalent divine messages in continuity. Analyzing selected qur'anic verses reflecting acts of shared beliefs in monotheism, charity and concern for humanity, social justice and piety, we navigate foundational grounds for mutual understanding. First the analysis will identify verses that highlight this continuity of divine revelation between these faiths, illustrating a common spiritual heritage. In other words as well, this study emphasizes the need to integrate Quranic perspectives into current interfaith situations. The study provides insights from classical interpretations and the Quranic injunctions of respect,co-existence as well as peace to guide against misconceptions which could provoke bias-minded thinking and religious hostility. The authors are one in saying that the findings indicate people should read religious books with empathy to increase cross-faith understanding. In the end, it concludes that a knowledgeable and culture-specific exegeses of the Quran can lead to improved interfaith relations. It calls for acceptance and cooperation based on shared values in a world of productive conversation to address global challenges, coming finally to view religious pluralism as a gift from God the very basis from which collaborative peacebuilding can begin.
