Abstract

One of the linguistic phenomena that I observed when I followed colloquial words in dictionaries of words in the fourth century AH was the phenomenon of substitution between sounds. This phenomenon is considered one of the distinctive linguistic phenomena of the classical Arabic language. Linguists wrote large books concern it, the most prominent of which is the book "Substitution" by Abu al-Tayyib al-Lughawi (d. 351 AH). I found that most linguist’s and common people had substituted between sounds, just like the Eloquent classical Arabs According to the general public, substitution occurred between sounds that come from one exit, as well as sounds that come from two close exits or two distant exits, whether the sounds switched to each other are united or discordant in characteristics
