Abstract

The digital revolution has imposed a new reality on the media landscape, bringing with it mounting challenges for journalists particularly amidst crises and conflicts. In this context, artificial intelligence tools have emerged as aids capable of enhancing media performance and facilitating information access and analysis; yet, they simultaneously raise questions regarding professionalism, credibility, and journalistic ethics.

Our selection of the "X" platform one of the most widely used digital channels for disseminating news and data regarding global events and crises reflects the profound impact of this interactive technological environment on the nature of journalistic work. This is especially evident in the coverage of the Syrian crisis, which stands as one of the region's most complex crises due to the intricate interplay of political, humanitarian, and media-related factors.

The study of artificial intelligence's impact on media discourse is gaining increasing importance, particularly regarding political crises and conflicts. This study examines how the "X" platform employs AI applications to shape media discourse surrounding the Syrian crisis. Notably, the platform relies on a suite of intelligent tools such as the AI assistant "Grok" and "For You" recommendation algorithms that determine the content displayed to users based on their interests and past interactions, thereby influencing user awareness and steering public debate. Furthermore, data analysis algorithms play a pivotal role in amplifying specific media narratives while limiting the reach of alternative viewpoints.

The research yielded several findings, including that respondents view the contribution of artificial intelligence to enhancing news interaction and accuracy as moderate rather than decisive. The results also confirmed that the majority of respondents recognize the impact of AI algorithms on news ranking and audience reach, reflecting an awareness of the role algorithms play in shaping the media agenda.
